Sophie Courser had a near-miss day in the Epee competition.
Despite having a great quarter-finalround and fencing tough in the semis, Courser missed the final pool of 12 by indicators after going 3-3. According to head coach
Bruce Gillman, “Sophie needed to make that final pool to have a shot at NCAA Championships this year. Sophie finished 13th and had a great 2009-10 season, posting an impressive 82 percent win percentage in her bouts against other NCAA opponents. She will continue to be a force to be reckoned with as a senior next year.
Also in epee competition, freshman Caitlyn Clevenger fenced a solid quarter-final round, but fell in the semis, finishing 20th.. Freshman
Chaia Flegenheimer finished 48th.
In Foil, freshman
Katie LeClair had an impressive run in the quarterfinals and advanced into the semis with momentum, winning two bouts against tough opponents. LeClair fell one victory short of making the final pool. She finished in 16th place.
Junior Jackie Kory was 29th in foil and sophomore
Liz Ilechko was 40th. Junior
Julie Carlsen finished 30th in the sabre.
