A Coach's Diary: From Dublin to Cork

Ireland Spring Break Travel Diary (March 14, 2010)

Cork, Ireland

The Vassar teams have traded the hustle and bustle of Dublin for the slightly smaller confines of Cork. The journey south took about 3 and a half hours and upon arrival we checked into Shelia's Hostel. Cork is a port city with plenty of hills so we are just north of the river that dominates the city. Shelia's is pretty much your basic hostel. No frills, tidy but spartan for sure. The rooms are for the most part small, well to be honest, you can barely swing a cat in them! We have a room of 12 lads together and it's even money as to whether or not all 12 will survive!

This is the testing part of any tour as patience is short, the initial novelty of being abroad has worn thin, and small difficulties like injuries, living space, and just traveling together take their toll. But this seems to be a tough group and they have a good attitude. They will need to stick together and support each other through these next few days.

We practice at Ballincollig this morning and then have a day trip to the Cliffs of Moher tomorrow. Our next game is on Tuesday at the very scenic Kinsale. Stay tuned for later updates and be patient, just like the players should be with each other!
