WEST PALM BEACH, FL (March 11, 2010) – In one of its most complete offensive performances in the last several seasons, the Vassar women’s lacrosse team got goals from 14 different players – including six first year players – to register a convincing 18-9 victory over Simmons College in the final game of three contests held in West Palm Beach during Spring Break.

The Brewers, now 2-1 on the season, will host Eastern Connecticut in the home opener on March 17 at 6:00 p.m. Simmons drops its season opener and will face Resselear in West Palm Beach on Friday at 1:00 p.m.

Vassar got off to a rapid start against Simmons, scoring the game’s first five goals – all coming from five different players – in the opening 12 minutes of the contest. Although Simmons sophomore attack Meghan Maurice scored back-to-back goals to close out the first half, Vassar remained comfortably ahead 7-4.

The Brewers broke the game wide open in the second half, scoring five of the first seven goals, two each coming from junior attack Sarah Warner and fellow junior attack Allie Morgan. Leading 12-5 with 22 minutes remaining, Vassar was able to substitute freely, enabling several freshman players to score their first collegiate goals and provide the entire roster with playing time.

Vassar had 29 shots in the contest, converting 18 of those into goals. Sophomore goalie Heather Kesselman got the start and registered a career-high nine saves in her first collegiate victory. Morgan led the scoring brigade for Vassar with three goals, while Warner added two goals and an assist. Senior Liz Pacheco had two assists.

Maurice had three goals for Simmons and freshman goalie Kelly Last had 11 saves.
