Freshman Andrew Lindsay earned a five-game win at No. 6
NEW HAVEN, CT (February 20,2010) – Down 4-3 heading into the final two matches of the consolation semifinals in the Chaffee Division of the College Squash Association (CSA) team championships, the Vassar College men’s squash team was unable to get the two wins it needed, dropping a narrow 5-4 decision to Haverford College on Saturday at Yale University.
The Brewers fall to 4-13 and will conclude their season against Drexel University tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. at Wesleyan University. Drexel and Vassar will be playing a No. 35 final ranking.
With the Brewers needing two wins for the victory, down 4-3, senior No. 4
Henk Isom and freshman No. 7
Max Middleton took the court for Vassar. Both went to four games, but the Brewers were unable to get the two victories it needed. Although Middleton dropped his first game, 10-12, he rebounded with 11-7, 11-6, 14-12 wins. Isom dropped his first two games and appeared to be on the verge of a comeback win after winning the third game, but eventually fell, 1108, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6.
Although the Fords picked up 3-0 wins at the top three spots, the remaining matches were very closely contested, with three going to five games. Junior
Kyle Holter dropped a tough 14-16,14-12,9-11,12-10,11-9 at No. 4, but Vassar earned wins in the other two five-game decisions. Freshman No. 6
Andrew Lindsay pulled out a 11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 11-4 win, while junior No. 8
Ansser Sadiq gutted out a 11-9,11-5,10-12,6-11,11-9 victory. In an indication of how close the match was, no game victory came by more than seven points with just one 11-4 game.
