POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 2, 2010) – Although senior forward
Emily Haeuser put up her second consecutive double-double, the Vassar women’s basketball team fell to Eastern Connecticut State University, 70-55, Tuesday night at the Athletics and Fitness Center.
In their final non-league game, the Brewers, now 7-10, 3-4, next host a Liberty League weekend beginning with St. Lawrence this Friday at 6:00 p.m. and followed by Clarkson on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Warriors take their 14-6 record on the road to face Salem State College this Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

Carolyn Crampton extended Vassar’s lead to seven at 11-4, the Brewers’ largest lead of the game.
The Warriors then surged with a 20-3 run powered by six points each from Jessica Moriarty and Tanisha Carter, and four from Piper Chapman. Vassar turnovers were costly during this seven minute stretch as Eastern Connecticut State converted four Brewer turnovers into nine points.
Vassar stayed within reach thanks to Haeuser’s inside presence and trips to the line by Parks and
Kristyn Tempora, and the Brewers trailed by only eight at the half, 32-24.
The Warriors nursed a double-digit lead for most of the second half although Vassar pulled within nine points with six minutes to play thanks to a Parks three-pointer assisted by Chaltain.
The Warriors countered with a seven point run on four free throws by Moriarty and a three-pointer by Amanda Pierlioni to boost the lead to 16 points at 67-51with just under four minutes left in the game.
The Warriors pushed the tempo, scoring 23 points on fastbreaks, many from Vassar turnovers.
Haeuser led Vassar with 17 points and 10 boards, her second consecutive double-double, and her eighth of the season. Tempora contributed 12 points and six rebounds.
For Eastern Connecticut State, Moriarty approached a triple-double with 17 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds. Carter and Pierlioni each added 12 points.
