POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 9, 2010) -- In an effort to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer, the Vassar College women's volleyball team joined the Side-Out Foundation to celebrate its third annual 'Dig Pink' event on Saturday in Kenyon Hall. The Brewers celebrated in style, sweeping both Marietta College (25-19, 25-23, 25-20) and New Jersey City University (25-14, 25-18, 25-22). In the second match against NJCU, senior libeiro Chelsea Mottern reached the 1,000 dig milestone and moved into seventh place in the Vassar record books for career digs with 1,006.

In the first match of the day, the Brewers swept the Pioneers of Marietta College, 25-19, 25-23, 25-20. Sophomore Hilary Koenigs was the architect of the offense, with 28 set assists while sophomore Hannah Cassius anchored the defense with a career-high 17 digs.

With the score at 9-8 in the third game of the match, the Brewers broke the game open to a score of 18-11 behind multiple kills from sophomore Chloe McGuire as well as a thunderous solo block from Amy Bavosa. The Pioneers were able to make a comeback run with kills from junior Elizabeth Robbe, but a Carman ace finished the game, 25-20. In the second game, Vassar went up 17-12 after an ace by freshman Jessie Ditmore, but three consecutive kills from junior Meredith Storey cut the lead to 17-15. The teams traded points back and forth but with the score tied at 23-23, back-to-back kills from McGuire and Ditmore gave the Brewers the edge, 25-23.

In the first game, trailing 11-10, the Brewers scored six straight points on the serve of Cassius to take a 16-11 lead and never looked back, as solid play by Bavosa up front as well as Carman gave the Brewers an easy 1-0 lead.
