POUGKEEPSIE, NY (October 6, 2010) -- The Vassar College men's tennis team won its only dual match of the fall season 6-3 over New York University as senior Max Willner reached the 100 career wins milestone.

With their fifth straight win over NYU, the Brewers improve to 1-0 heading into the Wallach Invitational, a three-day flighted individual tournament hosted by Bates College beginning this Friday, October 8.

The Brewers captured two of three doubles to take a 2-1 lead thanks to solid play from a pair of brothers. At No. 3 doubles, senior captain Josh Jasso and sophomore Nick Jasso tag-teamed NYU's Steven Wu and Tim Wu for an 8-4 win. The other brother duo of junior Ben Guzick and Andrew Guzick ganged up on Connor Witty/ Bowen Xu for an 8-4 victory.

The Brewers opened up singles with a quick point as Willner raced to a 6-0, 6-2 win over NYU's Alex Zara for his 100th career victory.

Coming off a magical weekend in which he won the ITA Northeast Regional Championship, Andrew Guzick continued his outstanding play with a gutsy 6-3, 6-7⁴, 7-6² win over Arlington High School standout and Villanova transfer, Connor Witty to clinch the match 5-2 for Vassar.

This was six-year head coach Ki Kroll's final match for Vassar College before he begins his position as head men's tennis coach at Division I University of Southern Mississippi. Coach Kroll is recognized as the architect of the Vassar College men's tennis powerhouse we know today. Kroll coached the Brewers to two Liberty League Championships, three program-first NCAA Championship qualifications, and a program best 14-4 record and program-first National Ranking of 22 last season. Kroll produced three All-Americans in three years, the first All-Americans in program history. He was twice named Liberty League Coach of the Year.
