CAMBRIDGE, MA (September 26, 2009) – After being upended in its first five-set match of the season against Endicott College (3-2), the Vassar women's volleyball team rebounded in fine fashion with a 3-0 sweep over Colby College (25-14, 25-19, 25-22) to finish the annual MIT Invitational with a 2-2 showing.
The Brewers, now 10-3 on the season, will travel to a pair of traditional regional opponents in New York University on Wednesday, September 30 at 7:00 p.m. and Stevens Institute of Technology the following Wednesday, October 7 at 6:00 p.m.
The Vassar-Endicott match was a tightly contested affair that came down to the fifth set, where the Gulls capitalized on Brewer miscues for a 15-5 match clinching victory. The prior four sets were extremely close and competitive, with Vassar's diligent defense a deciding factor in the match staying close and going either way. Vassar fell 25-23, 23-25, 28-30, 25-15, 5-15.
Against Endicott, the Brewers had their second best season effort for digs with 82, getting contributions from nine different players, four double figures efforts, and a career-high 13 digs from junior newcomer

Chelsea Mottern# had 23 digs, her eighth double digit effort of the season and second best in her career. The Brewers also used a season-tying 14 block assists to keep the pressure on Endicott, with junior
Julianna Simon contributing a team-high four.

Chloe McGuire and senior
Sarah Potts set new career highs for attacks respectively. McGuire had 51 attacks and Potts registered 37, bettering her previous high of 34 against Clarkson in last year's Liberty League Championships. McGuire finished with 16 kills and Potts 12 to lead Vassar. The Brewers pounded out 51 kills against Endicott, with six players having four or more. Freshman
Hilary Koenigs had 43 of Vassar's 44 set assists.
In the 3-0 sweep of Colby, Vassar was led by McGuire with 15 kills and senior
Tess Johnson with 12 kills. Koenigs chipped in with 36 set assists and a career-high 20 digs. Mottern had 16 digs, raising her double figures efforts to nine on the season.
