POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 7, 2009) – Two members of the Vassar College baseball team were honored by the Liberty League on Thursday in recognition of their play for the Brewers in the 2009 season. Junior shortstop
Ari Glantz and freshman third baseman
Sal Costanzo were named All-Liberty League Honorable Mention. Between the two of them, Glantz and Costanzo spearheaded the Vassar offense this year, leading the team in nearly every major statistical category. They ranked first or second in batting average, slugging percentage, on base percentage hits, RBI, doubles, triples, total bases, runs, triples, walks, stolen bases, and sacrifice flies.

This is the second consecutive season Glantz has been recognized with All-Liberty League Honorable Mention. Glantz started all 32 games he played in this season and led
the team in slugging percentage (.496), on base percentage (.429), runs (27), triples (4), walks (17), stolen bases (18), and assists (92). Extremely fast and clever on the base paths, Glantz was never picked off, with a perfect 18-for-18 record, stealing multiple bases in six games. He was second on the team in batting average (.336), hits (38), and fielding double plays (18). Glantz was tied for third in the league with four triples and ranked fifth in the league in fielding double plays and assists. The shortstop recorded multiple hit games on 14 occasions and had at least one hit in 20 games. Glantz had three hits and two RBI against RPI (3/31), and recorded three hits against Mt. St. Mary (3/18), St. Lawrence (4/10 and 4/11), and New Paltz (4/15).

Costanzo showed incredible potential in his collegiate debut, as he started all 35 of Vassar's games, showing versatility as both third baseman and catcher. Costanzo led
the team in batting average (.347), hits (42), RBI (27), doubles (9), total bases (57), and sacrifice flies (4) and ranked second on the team in slugging percentage (.471), on base percentage (.424), triples (3), and walks (16). The freshman had multiple hit games on 10 occasions and had at least one hit in 25 games. Costanzo recorded multiple RBI games on eight occasions and batted in at least one run in 14 games. He knocked out four hits and five RBI against New Paltz (4/13/09), and recorded three RBI against Mt. St. Mary (3/25) and St. Lawrence (4/10).
