Men's Lax Handed 14-5 Loss By Kean

UNION, NJ (March, 14, 2009) -- The Kean University men’s lacrosse team had 10 different players score goals en route to a 14-5 victory over the Vassar men's lacrosse team Satruday afternoon in non-conference action.

The loss evens the Brewers' record at 2-2. Vassar will continue its spring break series of games when visiting Christoper Newport on Tuesday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m.

Sophomore attack attack Sam Thypin-Bermeo (Princeton, NJ/The Hun School), led the Brewers with two goals and an assist, increasing his season total to six goals and five assists for 11 points.

Juniors Scott Leathem (Fair Lawn, N.J.) and Jazimar Bailey (Hoboken, N.J.) each had two goals and two assists for the Cougars (3-2).

Kean scored the first seven goals of the game, as Bailey netted the first goal unassisted recorded both of his goals and assists in the opening 23 minutes of the game.

Thypin-Bermeo got the Brewers on the board with an unassisted goal with 4:23 to go in the second quarter to pull Vassar to within 7-1 at halftime.

In the second-half, Kean scored seven of the first eight goals to extend the lead to 14-2, before Vassar netted the final three goals of the game to put the final score at 14-5.

Junior attack Anthony Bertucci (Edison, N.J.) added two goals and an assist, while junior C.J. Gannon (Morris Plains, N.J.) added two goals in the win.

For the Brewers, sophomore Alex Tice (Oakland, CA/St. Ignatius Prep) and junior #Ed Pappo" (Malvern, PA/Conestoga) each made three saves in goal.

Alex Tice
Men's Lacrosse
Tice set a new career best in saves when he recorded 17 in a tough 9-8 double overtime loss against Christoper Newport to conclude Spring Break games. Tice previously had recorded 16 saves as a sophomore goalie against Hamilton last March. For the 2-3 men's lacrosse team, Tice kept the Brewers close in a pair of overtime losses to Manhattanville and Christopher Newport, excelled in a 14-5 win over Medaille and shined in a hard-fought 9-6 loss to Alfred.
Sarah Warner
Women's Lacrosse
Warner started the 2010 season by scoring 10 goals with one assist in three Spring Break games. She scored four goals each against Bridgewater State and Drew and two against Simmons College. She scored the game winning goal against Drew and Simmons and placed 16 of her 21 total shots on goal. In her career, Warner has tallied four or more goals 10 times.
