POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 19, 2009) – With back-to-back swim meets, the Men's Basketball Vassar Invitational, and fencing Senior Day all occurring on campus this weekend there will be a wide variety of athletics events for Vassar fans to attend. Also competing this weekend, women's basketball heads to Maine for the Colby College Invitational, while the squash teams travel to St. Lawrence University for the Liberty League Championships.
Men's and women's swim-dive hosts back-to-back meets, with Pace University on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and SUNY New Paltz on Saturday at 1:00 p.m in the Kresge Pool. The Brewers will not host a meet again until January 30.
Both squads are 1-1 after dropping last weekend's meet to a talented Rensselaer team, as the men lost 184-109, and the women dropped a 186-114 decision. Against RPI, men's sophomore diver
Greg Sullivan won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events, in the process picking up one of two necessary NCAA qualifying scores in the 3-meter. Freshman Nicholas Veazie and sophomore
Jack Smart led Vassar with two wins apiece. The women were led by junior
Samantha Jones who took home two wins, while freshman
Shannon Sara and senior
Jordana Jantze won one event apiece.
Men's basketball hosts the Vassar Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Athletics & Fitness Center. The first game of the Invitational will feature Richard Stockton College (0-1), ranked No. 5 nationally in the Division III pre-season poll, and Western Connecticut State University (1-0) at 6:00 p.m. followed by Vassar (1-0) and Newbury College (1-0) at 8:00 p.m. The consolation game will be played on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with the championship game following at 3:00 p.m.
The Brewers are coming off a season-opening 78-66 win over Endicott College. Sophomore
Caleb McGraw netted a career-high 37 points to lead Vassar to the victory, while senior
Casey Black and freshman
John Donnelly contributed nine points apiece. For their efforts in the win, McGraw was named the Liberty League Guard of the Week, while Donnelly earned Rookie of the Week.

At last Sunday's Vassar Invitational, the men swept through play with a 5-0 record, led by a perfect 9-0 performance from junior
Andrew Fischl at the sabre. The women went 5-3, led by an impressive 17-1 showing from junior epeeist
Sophie Courser.
Women's basketball (1-0) plays in the Colby College Invitational, opening up against host Colby (0-0) on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The Brewers will face either Thomas College (0-1) or St. Joseph's College (0-1) on Saturday, with the consolation game at 1:00 p.m. and the title game at 3:00 p.m.
Vassar opened its season last Sunday, erupting for 95 points in a 95-89 win over Centenary College, a team that averaged 81.5 points per game last season to lead Division III, while the Brewers averaged 52.6 ppg in 2008-09. The highest total for a Vassar team since 2000 was an 84-point output against Medgar Evers College in 2002. Brittany Parks, and 15 points and 11 rebounds from senior

Tori Chaltain chipped in with 12 and 10 points respectively. Teapora, whose 23 points matched a career high, was named the Liberty League Forward of the Week, while Westbrook-Gold earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Women's squash (1-0) looks to defend its title at the Liberty League Championships. On Saturday, the Brewers face host St. Lawrence at 3:00 p.m. and will take on William Smith College on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. Last season Vassar squeaked by William Smith, 5-4, and then defeated St. Lawrence, 9-0, for its first ever Liberty League title.

The men head to the Liberty League Championships with momentum after a 3-0 start to the season, following Vassar's 8-1 win over Fordham University on Wednesday. The Brewers play host St. Lawrence at 3:00 p.m. at Saturday followed by a 6:00 p.m. match against University of Rochester, closing out the weekend against defending champion No. 3 nationally-ranked Hobart College at 10:00 a.m.
Following Vassar's 9-0 sweep of Bard on November 11, junior No. 1
Mehdi Naqvi was named Liberty League Performer of the Week and freshman No. 6 Andrew Linsday earned his second consecutive Rookie of the Week honor.
