A graduate of nearby SUNY New Paltz, Erica Ellis joins Vassar College as the interim assistant men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach for the 2009-10 season. A five-time Division III All-American, Ellis graduated in May 2009 as a four-year letter winner for the SUNY New Paltz swimming team. In her senior season, Ellis served as the team captain and was the SUNYAC Champion and ECAC Champion in the 100-yard breaststroke. Ellis was voted “Most Dedicated” by her team in her junior season, and earned SUNYAC All-Academic honors all four years.
Ellis served as an assistant swim coach for Wildcat Aquatics in Utica, NY during the summer of 2007, coaching practices for 5-15 year olds and compiling practices plans and dryland training routines. She also taught summer classes at Holland Patent High School in Holland Patent, NY from 2000 to 2007. At Holland Patent, Ellis instructed American Red Cross swim lessons at all levels, and taught private swim lessons for children ages 7-11.
Ellis received her B.A. in Journalism with a minor in Business and Communications. While at New Paltz, Ellis was a Sports Information Intern from August 2007 to December 2007 and an aide to the Assistant Athletic Director in her senior year. Additionally, Ellis interned at Swimming World Magazine from January 2008 to May 2008, researching and writing articles to be published in the magazine’s online edition, and conducting phone interviews with well known swimmers and members of the swimming community.
